Florida Training 2013-2014
To all our supporters and friends, thank you for your patience. With the end of the long winter, we can tell you about the fantastic season of training in Florida.
We rolled into St. Petersburg at the end of November to get organized for the 2013 America's Regatta. After a bit of boat work we got going with a couple of days of training before the event. Lots of breeze in St. Pete coming into the event but the forecast had the wind diminishing for the start racing. Eight teams in the line up.
Light air came as predicted but the race committee managed to put a 5 race series together over the weekend. The goal was to sail consistently through the series and stay in the hunt. We finished second at the event.
January in Miami we teamed up with Norway for speed testing and prepare for the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami. It proved an object lesson in the value of a training partner. Biscayne Bay is a fantastic playground for sailors seeking speed and smarts. Sailing with Norway benefitted both teams with improved settings and team roles more clearly defined. Coach Erik Stibbe was an invaluable resource and worked with us throughout our training and development.
Miami moved our story forward with more depth, better vision and improved communication on the boat. In February, we headed to the St. Petersburg NOOD regatta where coach Steve Mitchell joined us as a fourth. Conditions were challenging and we were happy with the way we sailed (though not the final result). Still things to change and improve.
